Hi, I’m John
As a practitioner of existential therapy, I focus on your unique individual experience rather than only your symptoms. Therapy is not a standardized model applied the same way to every person; it is adapted to your specific psychological profile, including how you think, feel, relate, cope with stress, and organize your life.
Using structured assessment tools and ongoing genuine conversations, we work to better understand your cognitive style, emotional patterns, relationship dynamics, stress responses, and personality structure. From there, therapy is tailored to help you manage present difficulties while also clarifying your values, identity, and personal philosophy for living.
My approach integrates existential therapy with structured methods such as CBT, DBT, exposure-based therapy, and bibliotherapy. Exposure therapy can help reduce avoidance and fear-based patterns, while bibliotherapy uses carefully selected readings and reflective exercises to deepen insight between sessions.
In couples work, I draw from Emotionally Focused Therapy and attachment-based approaches to help partners better understand one another, reduce unproductive patterns, and build a stronger emotional connection.
I live and work in Washington, DC, and have been practicing as a therapist for 15 years. I am licensed in Maryland, Virginia, and Washington, DC.
